MPLF Mission
The Medford Public Library Foundation generates financial support and stewards private funds to enrich the mission and vision of the Charlotte & William Bloomberg Medford Public Library for the community. The MPLF’s support is focused on Public Programming, Special Collections, Technological Innovation, Youth Services, and Adult learning.
MPLF History
In the summer of 2018, The Medford Public Library Foundation (MPLF), a 501(c)(3) organization was established to solicit, manage and monitor private funds raised for the construction, outfitting, maintenance and operation of the Medford Public Library. The organization works in collaboration with the Office of the Mayor of the City of Medford, Medford Library Trustees, and the Friends of the Medford Public Library.
The MPLF is governed by a Board of Directors. Its registered number with the IRS is 83-1522957
The MPLF began accepting tax deductible contributions in May 2019.
In June, 2023, the MPLF Board of Directors revised the mission of the organization. The MPLF will continue to operate as the non-profit arm of the library with the above mission.
Naming the New Medford Library
NEW YORK, NY and MEDFORD, MA – August 18, 2020 –
Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Medford Public Library Foundation today announced that the new public library being constructed in the City of Medford will be named the Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library in honor of Michael Bloomberg and Marjorie Bloomberg Tiven’s parents, who lived in Medford for 65 years.
Michael Bloomberg has made a $3 million gift toward the construction of the new public library in his hometown, recognizing the essential role it plays in the community. The Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library is slated to open in the fall of 2021.
