When will construction begin and end?

Construction will begin in the Fall of 2019 and be completed in the Spring of 2021.

Will the library be open during construction? 

Yes. The library services have been move to a temporary location at 200 Boston Avenue and operate there until the new library building is opened in the Spring of 2021. 

Will library programs be offered during the construction period? 

Yes. We will endeavor to maintain as many of the programs for kids, teens and adults as possible, but most of them will be offered outside of the temporary space. We will be working with the Medford Public Schools and community groups to house our offerings in different locations around the city. 

How will the new library building be different from the current one? 

The new library will be much larger with two full floors. It wil be fully accessible and have separate reading and program areas for adults, teens and children. The new library will also have many small private work/study rooms appropriate for indiviual quiet study or small group meetings.

What special spaces will the new library have?

The new library will have a technology classroom, a makerspace, a local history room, and a large meeting/performance room. It will also have a gallery, café, patio and terrace. Many of these spaces will be available for public use and open after regular library hours. 

Will there be more technology in the new library 

Yes. A major focus of the new library will be nurturing innovation and providing access to state-of-the-art technology. This will include advanced software, green screens, 3D printers, film editing equipment and much more. 

Can I contribute to the library building?

Yes. A foundation was created to accept tax-deductible gifts. The easiest way to contribute is to make a gift by going to the donations page on this website or click the donate button below!
